BEHEMOTH Evangelion review
A Great album!
“Evangelion” is black evil, epic powerful, latently progressive, technical yet catchy, melodic, playful, and straight, brutal, powerful, bombastic, uncompromising, and majestic. In short, it is incredibly complex.
As for the band’s sound after the adventures with severity on The Apostasy, they returned to purity, selectivity, and sterility, giving them an ice-cold, black metal color, the most similar to this species since the Thunder.
While “The Apostasy“ was a true masterpiece, “Evangelion” seems to burst with overpowering energy. Within the excellently elaborated compositions, there is always a great love for detail in the intersection of Death Metal and Black Metal, like some morbid sound effects, background choirs, oriental, occult melody lines double.
In addition to the melodic lines, the insane, complex riffs, which nevertheless seem catchy, the triumphant, playful solos, the extremely precise drumming, the dark atmosphere, and the successful balancing act between technical demands and direct, destructive violence that characterize “Evangelion.”
The trademarks have been retained and refined even further; feeling, radiance, and mood seem intense, ominous, threatening, authentic. This time, a little more emphasis was placed on dynamics, which admittedly fell short of a trace in the last works. The variety is enormous, yet “Evangelion” seems compact, as if from a single piece.
The monumental “Evangelion” is the crowning glory of the band’s work. BEHEMOTH are and will remain a great extreme metal band!
There is not a bad song, the hit density I almost consistently. Behemoth managed to create a real fireworks display, and the old masters of Black Metal show it to all newbies, who mostly only shine with brutality and little creativity. Here is another milestone in the band’s history.
The trio Nergal, Orion, and Inferno slowly developed into an unbelievable unit. Mostly when you listen to drummer Inferno’s work, songs like “Transmigration Beyond Realms Ov Amenti” or “He Who Breeds The Pestilence” give you a jaw-dropping sensation.
However, “Evangelion” in its entirety is just a massive show of power by Behemoth, which is slowly but surely moving beyond the competition.
Ultimately, “Evangelion” is the album with which BEHEMOTH opened a new chapter in her career. Thus, more melodies and epics entered the Poles’ sound, without compromising technical standards and brutality.
Therefore, the ninth album is finally a (further) absolute demonstration of power, with the BEHEMOTH illustrating how far they are ahead of the competition.
