Pale Folklore Review
A masterpiece!
If you haven’t gone to get this little wonder yet, I can always try to tell you why I consider this first album by the American band to be one of the best albums ever released.
This album has it all. An atmosphere in which I immerse myself each time with delight, compositions of exceptional quality, a perfect balance.
I could go on like this for a long time by multiplying superlatives and hyperboles.
No title is weak and even better; all are close to perfection. I will avoid quoting each piece’s qualities, as much as you discover for yourself this goldsmith’s work.
Agalloch, the band from Oregon, has no concessions and leads us directly to a mortuary spirit, albeit with suitable arrangements that mix black metal’s rudeness with acoustic interludes typical of specific European folklore.
The title of this first length is more than right: Pale Folklore, with the logo of the band carved in stone, announcing the passage and mark of man along with the state of nature.
Agalloch is one of the best metal bands of the twentieth century. Music envelops the soul with a mantle of mist and conditions us to a hypnotic and introspective journey to evaluate our mortality in this world and ask ourselves about our lives’ identical conditions.
On an existentialist level, Agalloch’s first album is the soundtrack to our agony. This journey will continue towards a limbo on the second record that marks our existence’s passage to another plane.
Leaving aside any technical musical considerations for an atmospheric and emotional approach to music, Pale Folklore poses itself as the first pearl of a short discography filled with genius records.
However, each album being unique to Agalloch, we will not find any more records with the same characteristics as Pale Folklore. But, given the time it will take to tire, this leaves a substantial margin.
