My Review about “Infest The Rats Nest”

A great album!

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are seven guys on stage (including three guitars and two drums in their live shows). Still, due to differences in the members’ schedules, this album was only recorded by three of them: the vocalist and guitarist Stu Mackenzie, the guitarist Joey Walker and the drummer Michael Cavanagh first two, the tasks of guitar and bass were divided.

Despite that, the album doesn’t sound empty, thanks to how these three gave the songs.

While the lyrics and music of their previous work, “Fishing For Fishies” was strikingly different, in the end, the two speak to the environmental problems facing the world and our society today. Now, while Fishing did it from a much more digestible place, on this album, they created something substantial and decided to deliver a thrash metal album.

The incredible thing about the case is that after they had released their previous album “Fishing For Fishies” with an unmistakable bluesy aroma, they got into the skin of a pro metalhead, eighties thrash metal sound, to create a monster called “Infest The Rats’ Nest.”

It seems that King Gizzard are pissed off with the environmental situation and wanted to create their most violent and rabid work until the date, with a certain rebellious air but at the same time spicing up the whole thing with a pinch of sci-fi fantasy.

The album even has the luxury of walking through different types of thrash with songs like ‘Mars for the Rich’, which is more rocker, ‘Superbug’ is calmer, and ‘Perihelion’ most melodic chorus of the whole album.

With this work, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard do not reinvent the wheel when it comes to heavy metal, nor does it give us anything that Metallica, Slayer, or Megadeth have not done in the past, but they don’t have to. They know that their album is a tribute to the genre, and they don’t want it to be anything more or anything less than that.

Rather, Infest the Rats’ Nest is an excellent foray of the group into another genre, one more to cross off its list. To date includes psychedelic rock, garage, blues, country, folk, and jazz, which will probably continue. They are expanding in the future.

It does not matter if they are doing psychedelic rock, pop-rock, prog, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard know how to make music with old grounds and a certain garage aftertaste.

Australians do not leave anyone indifferent, or you love them, or you hate them. Its detractors speak that it is a formation without a soul, that imitates everything that happens by its side and nothing else. In our opinion, we believe that we are facing a superlative band, with the chameleonic ability to mutate at will and take you to multiple universes without blinking.

9/10
