Gamma was essentially the band Montrose with a new name. Not only did the band feature Ronnie Montrose on guitar, but this album features ex-Montrose men Jim Alcivar (keyboards) and Alan Fitzgerald (bass) as well.The hard-edged tracks feature killer licks, tasty keyboard fills and Davey Pattison's strong, emotive vocals. Clocking in at nearly thirty-seven minutes, the highlights from the Ken Scott produced effort include storming album opener "Thunder and Lightning", plus the melodic cover of The Hollies' "I'm Alive", the slashing "Razor King", the jazz-fusion instrumental "Solar Heat", the aggressive "Ready for Action", the bluesy "Wish I Was" and the lengthy "Fight to the Finish". Ronnie's expressive and inspired guitar work shines from start-to-close. Montrose's solo during "Razor King" brings to mind the legendary Michael Schenker.Next to the first Montrose album, this is probably the most consistent hard rock album of Ronnie's career.
