Ex/ex | Jaw-dropping Occitanian female acid folk jaw-breaker. Original way below the radar private French 1983 pressing. Rosina de Peira was one of the first female vocalists to tackle the rich and fertile ground of Occitanian folk music. Since she made her debut in the early 1970s, she has battled for the preservation and cultural recognition of her home grounds and in response to this ongoing cultural struggle she founded her own label called Revolum. Accompanied by her daughter Martina, Rosina propels her vocals through a wide diversity of Occitanian moods and struggles. In 1973, she made an appearance at one of the first Occitan gatherings at Montségur d'Ariège and in 1974 she even dug deeper in the microcosms of Occitan song forms, resulting in the establishment of Revolum. By doing so she was able to put out her first ever album Rosina e Martina de Peira. Martina backs up her mother on vocals and guitar. Together mother and daughter – crafting out songs solely sung in the Occitan language – explore a vast repertory of exclusively songs that originated out of the regions of the South of France. Rosina et Martina sing polyphonies or sing in echo to each other, revoking images of troubadour styles 13 century epic song cycles. The instrumentation only bring out the fragile beauty even more of their limpid singing and enforces even more the rare beauty that beholds their songs. Fantastic female vocal styled acid folk. If such a terminology does exist I can only use it for Rosina and other troubadour styles song forms. All the rest just pales in comparison.
